Deciding it was time to get his travertine re-honed, then shined and polished, we set up an appointment for Chris to take a look. And when the appointment was set we also pre-set a suggested appointment the following day for the work to be done. If somewhat urgent, we offer a pre appointment as was the case here.
But when Chris gave him pricing on the spot the client admitted he was awaiting another estimate. So before committing to us, we gave him the time to do his due diligence.
Well that came and went. I called late Saturday afternoon and was informed he hadn’t received the other estimate. Although the guy came and measured but wanted time to deliver his pricing. So the weekend came and went. Then Monday we touched base as we did have a pre-appointment set. But still no estimate. Finally late Monday, into the evening we got some texts from the prospective client. And while answering he answered there was still no second estimate.
Never heard whether he received the second estimate or not, his patience ran out. The job was firmed up we agreed we could still begin Tuesday, just later in the day. Now scurrying we arrived at one, and began. But along with restoring the travertine our client also asked for some carpet cleaning.
So having our truck mounted van there already, we were happy to oblige.
With just a half day we began with the carpet cleaning. And we knocked out one area of the travertine. Choosing to delay the bulk of the work, in the kitchen, we agreed we would prep and do that the following day.
Arriving mid am we then prepped the kitchen and began the slow sequence of diamond grinding. Akin to watching ‘grass grow’ while jack-hammering it we slogged through the diamond grinding sequence:
First seeing how we transformed the smaller area of travertine on Tues, our client instantly became thrilled and a very, very happy camper! The brilliance and shine was obvious. And after some exit instructions on how to care for the stone, and how long we might suggest that he have us back, he cornered Chris again. This time it was about hardwood floor refinishing.
Clearly our client had some TLC on his mind for various surfaces, and was sorting through what to do himself, and what to hire out for.
But after discussing the possibility of doing it himself, Chris encouraged him otherwise. Though Chris is a certified hardwood floor refinisher, he lets the wood floors be left to our wood floor technician. It is the kind of work better left to people who do it regularly, day in and day out. So after explaining that to Bob, he concurred and thanked him for the gentle guidance.
