Moorestown Historic Home Wood Floors Revitalized

Backstory…

We are this homeowner’s “go to people” for all her technical cleaning, polishing and refinishing. Whether it is marble polishing, carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning  or wood floor refinishing, Jane calls us. For her it is about results and equally so about the service. She lives a crazy busy schedule and coordinates her home services with a crew who attends to her needs successfully within a time line that works for her. So when she called for her wood floor refinishing, it was a no-brainer.

The Challenge

This homeowner wanted a fresh look for her slightly well-used wood floors. She wanted to make it look as pristine as the rest of this beautifully coiffed and decorated home.

Solution

While we do not have any before pictures inside her home, we do have pictures of the floors after sanding, and the finished floors. Not only did we do the kitchen-eating area, we also refinished the gorgeous back stairway entry. The sanding for this project went well. First, we brought in the heavy sanders to do the rough sanding, and then followed with other sanders for the edging and fine sanding. She had us apply a dark stain so the kitchen floor would have a striking contrast against the light French country cabinetry and sleek stainless steel appliances. And also, while not competing with the older section of the house (120 yrs old), these newer refinished wood floors complimented the older wood floors in adjacent rooms. Both the new and older wood floors looked elegant and met the expectations of this discriminating customer.

Afterthoughts…

We delivered the results our customer wanted, and she was very satisfied!

Fast forward six months. We got another call from her. The refinished floors still looked wonderful, but looking out on the English garden deck and pool balcony from the kitchen area, you can’t help but notice that the painted deck is peeling, dirty, and even rotten in some places. So this time around, Jane wanted us to work our magic on the deck surfaces.  But instead of painting it, she was hoping for a weathered stain look where the detail of the wood grain would show through. Rolling our sleeves up again, we set about sanding, repairing, and replacing the rotten boards. And referencing the outside pictures you can see some before and after shots.  We chose a weathered stain made by Vermont Coatings. Also, we knew the wood grain would show thru, but with some additional coatings over time it would truly take on the antique weathering she was looking for.

Just as Jane was pleased with our work the first visit, so also, she was thrilled with our repeat service. Months later, with warmer and more suitable outdoor living weather, she emailed us to tell us how much she and her husband were enjoying their fabulous deck and still very much in love with the way the restoration services turned out. She thanked us again, and let us know she had a third job in mind for us.
